Nimbus Sextet
One of the most innovative groups in the new wave of UK jazz, Nimbus Sextet are bringing their electrifying blend of jazz, world and dance music to top venues and festivals across the UK and Europe. Performing in and selling out the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, New Morning (Paris) and Pizza Express Jazz Club, bandleader Joe Nichols has firmly established Nimbus Sextet as a prominent voice in the European jazz scene.
Following a full UK tour last summer that included a standing ovation at Ronnie Scott’s, Nimbus Sextet will perform music from their hotly anticipated third album throughout 2024, which is due for release later in the year and will take their evolving sound to new heights.

FORWARD THINKER (Acid Jazz, 2022)

Nimbus Sextet’s second Acid Jazz album FORWARD THINKER was released in spring 2022, marked with performances at the prestigious New Morning in Paris, sold out concerts at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Glasgow Jazz Festival and a packed out Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
Featuring seven Nichols-penned compositions, it sees the band expand their musical horizons, incorporating hip-hop and dance elements to the jazz and funk sounds they are well known for. Nichols enlisted some of the UK's top jazz musicians to perform on the record, including Nathaniel Cross, Jackson Mathod, and Steve Forman.
Upon release, the band were propelled to new heights. Live sessions at Radio France Internationale, BBC Radio Scotland and Jazz FM were imminent. Jazz FM also playlisted all three album singles and awarded Forward Thinker ‘Album Of The Week’ , while prominent plays came from Jamie Cullum on BBC Radio 2 and Radio Nova among others. The album gained universal praise and rave reviews in France from Star Wax Magazine, Clique TV and Jazz Magazine, who described Forward Thinker as a “masterful album”. The band released a documentary from their album launch show at New Morning Paris, featuring live tracks from the concert and pre-show interviews.

Nichols signed Nimbus Sextet to Acid Jazz Records in spring 2019. The band's breakthrough debut album DREAMS FULFILLED was released in autumn 2020, receiving widespread critical acclaim from Jazzwise, Worldwide FM, BBC Radio 6 Music and radio stations worldwide. Singles 'Trap Door' and 'Lily White' featured heavily on the Jazz FM playlist for several months, and the album later won Jazz FM’s ‘Album Of The Week’ Two live performance videos were premiered by Jazzed while another debuted on Clash Magazine.
